SHIPPENSBURG – Alison Dowdrick scored midway through the first half and reserve Meghan Mahon tallied with 1:30 left before halftime to lead Shippensburg to a 2-0 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC women's soccer on Wednesday.
The Warriors held a 17-16 advantage in shots, but Megan Delio (seven saves) and Shelbie Rackley (five saves) helped the Lady Raiders keep a clean sheet to improve to 8-3-1 on the season and 5-3 in the PSAC standings.
ESU (4-6-1, 3-6) played two goalkeepers as well, with junior
Melissa Myers making three saves in first half and freshman
Nicki Keiser posting five saves in the second half in her first career action between the pipes.
Dowdrick gave Shippensburg a 1-0 lead at the 24:03 mark of the first half when she headed in a corner kick on an assist from Rachel Hess. Mahon extended the margin to two goals on a header off an assist from Katie Leverentz.
The Warriors had 10 players record shots in the contest but couldn't crack Delio, who started in goal, or Rackley, who played the second half. Shippensburg's 12 saves were the most by an ESU opponent since Alexis Wilhelm made 20 saves in a 3-0 loss for Mansfield last season.
ESU faces No. 5 California (11-0-1, 7-0-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The Vulcans are coming off a 1-0 win over Bloomsburg on Wednesday.
