WILKES-BARRE – Redshirt junior Ed Ebewo placed fourth at 197 pounds to lead six East Stroudsburg University wrestlers at the Wilkes Open on Tuesday at Wilkes University.

Ebewo won three straight consolation bouts to reach the third-place match, where he took a 17-6 loss to Colin Ely (Franklin & Marshall). Ely also dealt Ebewo his only other loss of the day with a 12-8 decision in the quarterfinals.

Ebewo, who was third at the Wilkes Open a year ago, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-3 decision over Daniel Cox (Millersville) and a 20-5 technical fall of Robert Oshaben (Pitt-Johnstown) before falling to Ely. He rebounded with a 2-0 decision over teammate James Gonzalez, had a 7-2 decision vs. Daniel Hopkins (Rutgers) and an 11-5 decision vs. Musa Dereese (unrostered). Ebewo is 11-6 on the season and 8-2 in his last 10 matches.

Sophomore Will Weaver (285) earned four straight wins in the consolations to come up one match short of reaching the consolation final. Weaver was 4-2 on the day with a pair of major decisions, improving to 15-11 on the year, after falling in the opening round.

Weaver posted a 19-8 major of Tom Sitar (Maryland) in his first consolation bout, advanced by medical forfeit, had a 9-0 major of John LaPoint (unrostered) and an 11-5 decision of Conor Sweeney (Bucknell) before dropping a 6-2 decision to Christopher Smith (Wilkes).

Redshirt junior Adam Hluschak (141) reached the quarterfinals with a technical fall and a pin before bowing out with a major decision loss to Matthew Mariacher (American) and a medical forfeit.

Junior James Gonzalez (197) won his first consolation bout before falling to Ebewo, 2-0, in the consolations. Redshirt freshman Brendan McKeown (184) had a pin in the consolations for his only win and senior Jesse Dunn (165) took a pair of losses by decision.

The Warriors return to dual action on Saturday, January 8 at the Mid-Atlantic Duals at Ashland (Ohio).  They will face West Liberty (W.V.) in the first round.
