EAST STROUDSBURG – Victoria Sweet had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Lakesha Harris had 15 points and five assists to lead Nyack to a 73-55 win over East Stroudsburg University on the first night of action in the women's bracket of the 46th Annual Pocono Classic presented by State Farm.

Andrea Veres led ESU (1-3) with a season-high 16 points and redshirt junior forward
Brittany McClain had 13 points. Freshman forward
Nicole Hill added a season-best eight points off the bench.
ESU held an 8-1 lead in the early going over Nyack, the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions and an NCAA Tournament team a year ago. Nyack took its first lead (9-8) with just under 13 minutes to go but ESU hung tough, tying the game at 16-all on back-to-back buckets by sophomore guard
Barb Borst and McClain.
Nyack eventually opened a 39-24 halftime lead, holding ESU without a field goal for the final 5:41 after Veres hit from downtown to bring the Warriors within 28-22. Sweet had eight of her 14 points in a three-minute stretch late in the first half.
Khamari Tellis (10 points, six rebounds) and Ashley Tallman (10 points) were also in double-figures for Nyack. The visitors shot 44 percent from the field and had a 50-34 rebounding advantage to offset 27 turnovers.
ESU had 13 steals for the second time in four games this year, led by three each from Veres, sophomore guard
Angel Gaffney and sophomore center
Kelly Sorber. Sorber also had eight rebounds and is averaging 9.8 rebounds per game this season.
The Warriors will host Felician in their second game of the weekend on Saturday at 5 p.m. Felician won its opening game, 67-38, over Salem International early Friday afternoon led by 16 points each from Tierra Cleaves and Quay Baskerville. (
