LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Sophomore guard Barb Borst hit seven three-pointers on her way to a career-high 24 points to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 53-43 win at Georgian Court in non-conference women's basketball on Thursday afternoon.

Borst scored 10 points in the first half and 14 points in a nine-minute span in the middle of the second half to give the Warriors (2-6) their second victory of the season. Her seven three-pointers are tied for the second-most in school history, and she surpassed her previous career-highs of 21 points and five three-pointers in the season opener at Clarion.

ESU held Georgian Court (0-11) to 25.9 percent shooting and forced 37 turnovers. Samantha Heck scored 16 points and was 6-for-7 from the field, but the rest of the team was 9-for-51. Top scorer Lauren Staats had 10 points and was 4-for-21, and Brittany Baker had nine points and 13 rebounds but shot 3-for-16.

The Warriors had 23 steals, including eight by Borst and six by freshman forward Nicole Hill, both career-highs. Junior forward Jennifer Scherer had seven points and four rebounds and freshman guard Andrea Veres had five points, seven rebounds and six assists in a team-high 38 minutes at point guard. Sophomore center Kelly Sorber had four points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

ESU shot 35.1 percent, its best mark of the season, and was 8-for-18 from the three-point line led by Borst's 7-for-12 effort. The Warriors turned the ball over 31 times and Georgian Court had 17 steals.

Borst hit a trio of three-pointers in the first half as ESU led by as many as six points and held a 27-22 advantage at halftime. Georgian Court came back to take a 31-29 lead on a layup by Baker with just over 16 minutes left in the second half, but Borst put the Warriors back in front a minute later with the first of her four second-half three-pointers.

Borst drilled two more three's in the next four minutes, part of an 11-0 run that also included an offensive rebound and putback by Sorber that gave ESU a 40-31 lead. Georgian Court narrowed the deficit to four (40-36) before Borst scored five straight points, and Veres had a steal and layup that established a seven-point lead (47-40) at the five-minute mark.

The Warriors held the Lions to three points over the final five minutes, forcing five turnovers and a 1-for-9 mark from the field. They also came up with three offensive rebounds to maintain possession down the stretch.

Borst has hit at least two three-pointers in six of the Warriors' first eight games this season. She has 20 three's this year and was 22-for-37 over the final nine games of her freshman season.

Maryellen Onofre holds ESU's school record with eight three's vs. Columbia Union in 2006, and Sheila Gallagher made seven three's against Goldey-Beacom in 2005.

ESU begins its four-game PSAC crossover schedule on Monday and Tuesday, hosting Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst at 6 p.m. both days at part of two doubleheaders at Koehler Fieldhouse.
