GROVE CITY – Freshman Allison Schafer set East Stroudsburg University's school record in the 500 free to highlight the Warriors' weekend in the pool at the Grove City Winter Invitational in western Pennsylvania.

Schafer swam a time of 5:16.27 to take more than three seconds off the old mark of 5:19.60 which was set by Jackie Rulon in 1985. Rulon still holds ESU's records in the 1000 free and 1650 free.

She was third in the 500 free, placed second in the 400 IM (4:48.09) and third in the 200 fly (2:15.40), and swam on the Warriors' top 800 free relay team that placed fifth. ESU was fourth in the eight-team field in the overall standings.

Sophomore Sami Vavra was third in three events – the 200 IM (2:12.49), 100 breast (1:08.95) and 200 breast (2:31.98) – and had a leg on four of the five relays. The 400 free relay of Vavra, freshman Andrea Tremper, sophomore Kimberly Lawson and senior Sarah Roscioli was second in 3:42.25, and the other three relays all finished third.

The rest of the relays included Vavra, senior Amy Rowland, Lawson and Roscioli in the 200 free (1:40.00); Vavra, Roscioli, Lawson and Rowland in the 400 medley (4:07.01); and Vavra, Roscioli, Lawson and Tremper in the 200 medley (1:52.20).

Freshman Katie McKee notched a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 100 back (1:03.12) and 200 back (2:17.80). Lawson was fourth in the 200 fly (2:17.12), Tremper was fifth in the 200 free (2:04.80), Roscioli was fifth in the 100 breast (1:10.77), Rowland took seventh in the 200 back (2:20.95), and senior Caitlin Fallon and graduate student Sarah Scotchlas were seventh and eighth in the 200 breast.

The Warriors will be away from competition until second semester once they return from campus. They will take their annual winter training trip to Florida the first week of January and resume dual meet action on January 12 at C.W. Post.
