No. 18 ESU Wrestling Drops Dual at No. 9 UPJ

JOHNSTOWN – Pitt-Johnstown won all 10 bouts, including five match-ups of regionally-ranked wrestlers in Division II's Super Region One, to post a 42-0 win over East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday night in western Pennsylvania.

The Mountain Cats, ranked No. 9 in Division II and No. 1 in the region, won all five of the regionally-ranked match-ups by decision, including three by a single point. They also recorded three wins by fall and picked up a forfeit victory at 125. ESU entered the match ranked No. 4 in the region and No. 18 in the country.

At 133, freshman Jordan Toledo (Region #6) dropped his first career dual by a 9-3 decision against Ryan Link (Region #1), who is ranked No. 6 nationally. David Cawley (Region #6) knocked off redshirt junior Adam Hluschak (DII #4, Region #1) with a 9-4 decision, and UPJ followed with pins from Nathan Link (Region #5) at 149 and Joe Harper at 157.

The string of one-point setbacks began at 165, where Gary Lantz (Region #6) posted a 6-5 win over redshirt junior Thad Frick (Region #5). Steve Makin (Region #4) won by a 4-3 score over redshirt senior Jeff Jacobs (Region #5) at 174, and A.J. Brentzel (Region #2) won a 5-4 decision against redshirt freshman Brendan McKeown (Region #4) at 184.

At 197, Petros Georgilas had a 6-3 victory over junior James Gonzalez, and No. 6 Chris Dempsey (Region #1), a returning All-American, had a first period pin of sophomore Will Weaver at 285 to finish the night. Weaver took his first dual loss of the season after a pair of wins to open the year.

ESU will take a 1-2 dual record into the Bloomsburg Duals on Sunday. The Warriors will wrestle three Division squads in Buffalo, Drexel and the host Huskies.
