SHIPPENSBURG – Lauren Beckley and Kasey Gardner both hit the 30-point mark to lead Shippensburg to an 86-66 win over East Stroudsburg University on Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House.
Beckley (33 points, eight rebounds) and Gardner (30 points, seven rebounds, six assists) helped the Lady Raiders (12-13, 5-4) to the fourth win in their last five games. The two schools split their first two meetings this season, with ESU winning the first PSAC East match-up 58-55 on January 16 at Koehler Fieldhouse and Shippensburg earning a 77-67 victory in the ESU Pocono Classic in December.
Senior guard
Mel Villano tied her career-highs with 17 points and six assists for the Warriors. Villano scored 17 points in the meeting on December 3 between the two schools and had 13 points, including nine in the second half, in ESU's win over Shippensburg last month.
Freshman guard
Barb Borst and redshirt sophomore
Brittany McClain both hit three three-pointers and scored nine points for ESU (3-19, 1-8).
Beckley (21 points) and Gardner (18) led Shippensburg to a 48-29 halftime lead, which included a 14-0 run to open the game. ESU pulled within 23-18 midway through the half before the Lady Raiders scored the next nine points, including a three-pointer and a three-point play by Beckley.
ESU plays three games next week, beginning with Monday's 6 p.m. match-up against Kutztown in a game that was rescheduled from February 6.
