Seton Hill - W 6-2

SALEM, Va. – Junior Alicia Ashe homered in both games and East Stroudsburg University had 21 hits to post wins over Davis & Elkins, 10-7, and Seton Hill, 6-2, to run its winning streak to four games to wrap up the PSAC/WVIAC Challenge on Sunday.

The Warriors (10-13) had 15 hits in their first game of the day, with six players turning in multiple-hit efforts, and scored six runs in the first inning before holding off Davis & Elkins in the late innings.

In the second game, junior Caitlin Monahan didn't allow an earned run in five innings and senior Jackie Battaglino came on to shut down Seton Hill for her fourth career save to set the school record.

Ashe was 2-for-3 at the plate with two walks, two runs and three RBI against Davis & Elkins and homered in the fourth inning as ESU built an 8-0 lead. The Senators scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth, then pulled within 9-7 with two more in the bottom of the fifth.

Ashe's home runs give her six on the season, tied for third in ESU's record book through the first 23 games. Jen Veronesi holds the school record with nine home runs during the 2006 season and also owns the Warriors' career mark with 18.

Monahan relieved Battaglino after the first four frames and was credited with the save after Davis & Elkins left the bases loaded in the sixth and got the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but didn't score in either inning. Battaglino allowed five runs on nine hits and struck out three, and Monahan gave up two runs and seven hits with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings and picked up her second save of the year.

Five of the first six batters in the order had at least two hits. Junior Brittany Racek was 2-for-5 with a triple, junior Jamie Fisher went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, Ashe was 2-for-3 in the cleanup spot, senior Kara Darcey was 3-for-5 with two RBI and Battaglino went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Freshman Tegan Wendell batted eighth and was 2-for-4.

The Warriors scored their first four runs with two outs against Seton Hill to overcome a 1-0 deficit after the Griffins got on the board in the second. Sophomore Rachel Gieringer doubled and Darcey followed with her seventh career home run to put ESU ahead 2-1 in the fourth.

Gieringer and Ashe hit back-to-back homers with two outs for a 4-2 advantage in the sixth, and ESU added two more runs in the seventh, as sophomore Brittany Zanzalari walked, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a double by Wendell, who came home on a base hit by junior Jamie Mingis. Gieringer had two of the Warriors' six hits, going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run.

Battaglino didn't allow a hit in two innings and struck out four as the Warriors limited Seton Hill to four hits. She had one save as a sophomore, two as a junior and earned her first save of the year on Sunday to break the school record that she held with Marnie Koch (1994-97).

ESU will open its 16-game PSAC East schedule on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Millersville.
