ESU Women's Tennis Splits Two Matches in Weekend Action

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and five of the six singles flights to earn an 8-1 win at Goldey-Beacom, ranked No. 7 in the ITA East Region poll, on Sunday in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Warriors dropped a 6-3 decision at Holy Family on Saturday and are 8-5 on the season, including a 5-3 record this spring.

The tandems of juniors Katie D'Ambrosia and Jamie Ferrigno (No. 1, 8-5), sophomore Amanda Kaufman and senior Marissa Tanner (No. 2, 8-4) and freshmen Alex Santoro and Amy McGrath (No. 3, 8-2) all turned in strong performances to give ESU a 3-0 advantage after the doubles matches against Goldey-Beacom, which falls to 13-3 after its spring opener.

All six singles matches were extremely competitive as well, with ESU winning at all but the No. 5 spot. Kaufman won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1, D'Ambrosia had a key 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 win at No. 2, and Ferrigno won by a 6-2, 6-4 margin at No. 3.

The Warriors also received a 6-3, 6-4 win from Santoro at No. 4 and McGrath posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 to pick up a pair of points in the bottom half of the lineup.

At Holy Family, Jin Querubin and Juliana Victoria ended D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno's seven-match winning streak with an 8-4 win at first doubles and Holy Family had a pair of third-set tiebreaker wins in singles to knock off the Warriors.

Querubin picked up a 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 win over Kaufman at No. 1 and Chelsea Brown outlasted McGrath 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 12-10 at No. 6, and Holy Family also had victories and No. 4 and No. 5.

D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno both won their singles matches and have both won four straight to improve to 11-5 and 12-5 on the season, respectively. The duo is currently 13-4 in doubles action, including 11-2 in duals.

The Warriors travel to Millersville for their PSAC East opener on Tuesday afternoon.
