ESU Lacrosse Falls 25-7 at No. 5 West Chester

WEST CHESTER – No. 5 West Chester pulled away from a 7-5 lead with nine minutes left in the first half and remained undefeated with a 25-7 win over visiting East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon.

The Warriors' 6-1 start was tied for the best in school history and they stayed in the game for most of the first half against one of the top teams in Division II before the Golden Rams (8-0, 4-0) rolled off seven straight goals and took a 14-6 halftime lead.

Claire Grimwood (five goals) and Jackie Hoover (four goals) led West Chester offensively and Shannon Hayes had two goals and three assists.

ESU (6-2, 2-2) had seven players find the back of the net, including its top six scorers in juniors Molly O'Hara, Michelle Mangiaruga, Christine Bradley and Jamie Wesztergom and sophomores Kelsey Pfautz and Laura Riegel. Senior Sara Foley also scored and Mangiaruga, O'Hara and freshman Ali Green all had assists.

O'Hara has a team-high 20 goals and four assists, Mangiaruga has 16 goals and six assists and Bradley, the reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, has 14 goals and 13 assists on the season. All three players went over 100 career points in a 19-9 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday.

Mangiaruga and Foley scored the Warriors' first two goals to take a 2-1 lead seven minutes into the game. Riegel put ESU ahead 3-2 at the 19-minute mark before West Chester scored the next four goals.

Bradley and O'Hara converted to bring the Warriors within 7-5 with 9:13 left in the half, but Nicole Pyle scored 10 seconds later and West Chester stretched its advantage to eight goals by intermission.

MacKenzie O'Keefe made seven saves for West Chester, which outshot the Warriors 49-20. Sophomore Amanda Simms started in goal for ESU and had six saves in 25 minutes, while freshman Katie Zollo made five saves in 35 minutes.

ESU returns to Whitenight Field on Saturday with a conference match-up against Shippensburg at 1 p.m.
