Molly O'Hara scored five goals and senior
Lindsey Moyer and junior
Michelle Mangiaruga both had two goals and an assist to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 14-7 win over Millersville in PSAC East lacrosse on Thursday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
The Warriors (9-4, 5-3) secured their second winning season in the last three years and are two wins away from the school record of 11 that was set in 2000 and tied in 2008. They moved into a three-way tie for second in the PSAC East along with Bloomsburg and Shippensburg with two conference games remaining.
Moyer and fellow seniors
Sara Foley and
Jocelyn Gebhardt were recognized before the game. Gebhardt made her first start of the season, while Foley was unable to play due to injury after starting the first 12 games and contributing nine goals and two assists in the midfield.
O'Hara has 11 goals in the last two games. She scored a career-high six goals in a win at Kutztown on Monday to go over the 100-goal mark for her career and has 40 goals this season.
Junior
Christine Bradley assisted on O'Hara's first two goals and scored the Warriors' third as they opened a 3-0 lead. They held a 6-3 advantage at halftime, with O'Hara finding the net four times, and stretched the lead to 9-3 with 21 minutes remaining after scoring three goals in just over two minutes.
Freshman
Ali Green converted a free position shot, sophomore
Maure Perrymond won the draw control and scored 10 seconds later, and Moyer added an unassisted goal as the Warriors took control. Perrymond scored twice, Green had a goal and an assist and sophomore
Laura Riegel recorded a pair of assists for ESU.
Junior
Brittany Bissell and freshmen
Jennifer Kelly and
Kimberly Daly led the defensive effort that held the Marauders in check for most of the afternoon. Daly had seven ground balls in her third career start while Bissell and Kelly have both started all 13 games this season.
Sophomore
Amanda Simms made seven saves in goal while her counterpart, Courtney Haggerty, had 12 saves while facing 34 shots. ESU limited Millersville to 18 shots and forced the Marauders into 36 turnovers.
The Warriors travel to Brookhaven, N.Y. to face Dowling on Saturday and host Georgian Court next Monday before playing their final two conference games – next Wednesday (April 21) at home against PSAC East leader West Chester, and Saturday (April 24) at Shippensburg.
