SHIPPENSBURG – Shippensburg rallied for a 10-9 win in the first game, then kept its offense going to post a 10-2 (5 inning) win in the nightcap and take a PSAC East softball doubleheader from East Stroudsburg University on Saturday.

The Warriors (18-27, 6-10) gained their PSAC playoff spot and the No. 3 seed in the PSAC East with a split at home against Kutztown on Friday, and will travel to California (Pa.) next weekend for a three-team tournament with the Vulcans and IUP to play for a spot in the PSAC championship series.

ESU led 7-1 going into the bottom of the fourth in the opener before Shippensburg scored three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh to plate the winning run.

Chelsea Kendall was credited with the victory in both ends of the doubleheader for Ship, getting all three outs in the seventh of the first game and holding ESU to two runs on six hits over five innings in game two. The Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first on a grand slam by Courtney Steele and scored twice in the second, fourth and fifth to invoke the eight-run rule.

The Warriors had 11 hits in the first game and put together a five-run third inning fueled by a bases-clearing triple by sophomore C Samantha Capriotti and an RBI double by junior OF Jamie Mingis.

ESU added another run in the fourth on an RBI double by sophomore 1B Brittany Zanzalari, but Shippensburg's Moira Johnson hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-4.

The Warriors went ahead 8-4 in the fifth as sophomore 3B Rachel Gieringer belted an RBI single. Ship got the run back in the bottom half, then scored a pair in the sixth to tie the game at 8-all.

Junior OF Alicea Ashe led off the seventh with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior P Jackie Battaglino for a 9-8 lead, but the Raiders scored both of their runs with two outs in the seventh to close the game.

In game two, Shippensburg had 14 hits to complete a 27-hit afternoon. All nine starters had at least one hit and the top three spots in the order went 7-for-12.

ESU scored its runs on RBI singles by Capriotti in the fourth and Gieringer in the fifth.

Capriotti was 3-for-6 in the doubleheader and Ashe went 3-for-8 and scored three runs. Junior 2B Jamie Fisher was 2-for-3 and walked five times to reach base in seven of her eight plate appearances.

The Warriors travel to Lock Haven for a doubleheader on Tuesday as they prepare for their fourth straight appearance in the PSAC postseason and the sixth in school history.

ESU won the race for the third and final playoff spot in the PSAC East by one game over Millersville and Shippensburg, which finished with 5-11 records. West Chester and Kutztown tied for the regular season titles at 12-4 and split their season series, but WCU claims the division's No. 1 seed by going 4-0 against ESU, while Kutztown was 2-2.
