STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University's women's tennis team finished its 2009-10 season with a 14-8 record with a 9-0 shutout, and the men earned a 6-3 victory with one match remaining on their schedule as the Warriors took on Chestnut Hill on Sunday afternoon at Stroudsburg High School.
Junior
Will Norris won 7-6, 6-2 at first singles and 8-4 at first doubles with his brother, graduate student
James Norris, to lead the men's effort. Chestnut Hill was ranked No. 9 in the ITA East region and finishes its season with a 13-12 record.
The Warriors had seven players contribute to the win, with
Will Norris as the only double winner. In singles, junior
Jared Rosenberg won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, along with sophomore
Mark Covert (7-5, 7-6) at No. 4 and junior
Zach Ontell (6-4, 6-3) at No. 5.
James Norris fell 6-2, 7-6 at No. 2.
The third doubles team of sophomores
Andrew Makos and
Dalton Barton won 8-6, while Chestnut Hill took the second doubles match due to injury. The Warriors will host Caldwell on Monday at Wolbers Courts in their final action of the year.
ESU's women's team wrapped up its season at six matches above .500, including a 3-2 record in its PSAC East schedule.
Juniors
Katie D'Ambrosia and
Jamie Ferrigno will take a 45-21 doubles record into their final year after winning 8-4 at No. 1 on Sunday. The duo was 19-6 on the year and 17-4 in duals and has been selected to the All-PSAC squad in each of the last two years.
D'Ambrosia was 17-6 in singles (16-4 at No. 2) and Ferrigno went 16-8 (13-5 at No. 3). Sophomore
Amanda Kaufman, last year's PSAC East Freshman of the Year, was 14-11 overall, 12-9 at the top singles spot.
Senior
Marissa Tanner won the final two matches of her career, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and 8-0 with freshman
Rabecca Lausch at No. 2 doubles. Tanner was 41-29 in her career in doubles and 20-36 in singles. She posted an 11-6 doubles record this year and was 5-7 in singles.
Freshmen
Amy McGrath, Alex Santoro and
Rabecca Lausch completed their first campaigns with the Warriors. McGrath was 12-8 in singles and 11-8 in doubles, Santoro went 11-10 in singles (mostly at No. 4) and 11-8 in doubles and Lausch emerged late in the year to go 7-3 in singles and 6-2 in doubles action.
