PHILADELPHIA – Senior Paul Wagner placed second in the men's College hammer throw and senior Drew Miller was fifth in the men's Eastern triple jump as East Stroudsburg University wrapped up a record-setting weekend at the 116th annual Penn Relays at Franklin Field on Saturday.

Wagner had his best mark of 192-10 on his final throw to finish just 13 inches off the winning mark of 193-11 turned in by Alex Padgett of Clemson. Daniel Novia (Indiana) was third and Chris Bless (LSU) was fourth as Wagner was the only Division II athlete in the field of 32 competitors.

Miller was third entering the finals in the triple jump, posting his top effort of 48-0 3/4 on his third and final jump of the first round. Brown University took the top two spots, followed by Indiana and Cornell.

Wagner is an NCAA Division II automatic qualifier in the hammer (203-2) and the two-time defending PSAC champion in the event, while Miller has a provisional mark in the triple jump (50-0 1/2) and has won four of the last five combined PSAC indoor and outdoor titles.

The Warriors placed eighth in their heat of 18 schools in the 4x800m relay, the last of six ESU relays to compete over the three-day festival. Freshman Mike Saparito (1:55.2), junior Negus Graham (1:57.4), freshman Frank Fezza (1:57.1) and sophomore Sam Janssen (1:57.5) combined to put up a time of 7:46.91, just under three seconds off the school record set in 1985.

Graham ran on a pair of school-record setting relay teams on Friday. ESU earned its first victory in the Wetzler/Pennsylvania 4x400m relay since 1985 with a record time of 3:15.39, and the Warriors shattered the 34-year old school record in the 4x200 by more than two seconds, finishing in 1:25.36 for the top time among Division II schools.

Junior Lynn Mayer turned in an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the high jump on Thursday, clearing 5-9 3/4, and just missed on her three attempts at 5-11 1/4 that would have broken the school record of 5-10 held by her coach, Karen (Way) Gaita.
