BLOOMSBURG – Shavaun Fisher threw a five-hit shutout in a 1-0, eight-inning win in the first game and came on in relief to earn the win as No. 9 Bloomsburg came back for an 8-7 victory in the nightcap to take a non-conference softball doubleheader from East Stroudsburg University on Saturday.

Mandy Leach hit a two-out single to score Lacy Mauro to end the opener for the Huskies (27-3), who finally got to ESU senior pitcher Jackie Battaglino after seven shutout innings. Battaglino gave up seven hits and struck out two one day after beating Millersville, 8-1, in PSAC East action in a complete game that included 15 straight outs from the second through sixth innings.

Fisher struck out 14 and allowed one walk in the opener. The Warriors (14-19) had their best chance to score in the fourth as junior catcher Samantha Capriotti doubled and sophomore 3B Rachel Gieringer singled, but Fisher got a pair of strikeouts to end the inning.

Battaglino got out of bases-loaded situations in the first two innings and the Huskies managed just a two-out single in the third inning until Mauro singled to start the home half of the eighth. Mauro moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Pientack and scored on Leach's single to center.

In the second game, ESU jumped out to a 7-2 lead through the first inning and a half off Bloomsburg starter Caitlin Paine before Fisher relieved her with two outs in the second.

Junior CF Alicea Ashe was 3-for-4 in the game and had an RBI single in the first to score junior Brittany Racek, who had a base hit to lead off the game. Bloomsburg scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before the Warriors went back to work with a six-run second.

ESU had seven hits in the inning, with junior pitcher Caitlin Monahan and sophomore 1B Brittany Zanzalari hitting a pair of doubles to start the frame. Sophomore SS Pam Sellers and Racek both singled and Gieringer had an RBI single that turned into a three-run play after an error by the Huskies' left fielder. Ashe ripped a double and Capriotti singled to drive in the final two runs.

Bloomsburg scratched its way back in the game with one run in the second on an RBI single by Mauro, two in the third on a two RBI single by Jenna Hampton and two more runs in the fifth to tie the game at 7-7.

Leach dealt the decisive blow with a solo homer with one out in the sixth to put the Huskies ahead. ESU collected a pair of singles by Ashe and Monahan in the seventh to put the tying run on second before Fisher ended the game with a strikeout.

Fisher struck out six in 5.1 innings in the second game while Paine was tagged for six runs (three earned) on seven hits in 1.2 innings as the Huskies' starter.

Monahan (five runs, four earned) and Battaglino (three runs, two earned) both threw 3.0 innings in the circle for ESU.

The Warriors had 12 hits in game two, including three hits by Ashe and two each from Racek, Gieringer and Monahan. Capriotti had two of ESU's five hits in the first game.

Leach collected a pair of hits in both games for the Huskies and Danielle Lazorka was 3-for-3 in the nightcap.

ESU will take a 4-4 PSAC East record into Tuesday's doubleheader vs. Shippensburg at 2:30 p.m. at Zimbar Field. The Warriors currently hold the third and final playoff spot in the five-team PSAC East with eight conference games left on the schedule.
