Greg Laraia was third among the men and sophomore
Rose Mascoli finished fourth in the women's race as East Stroudsburg University had a successful start to the 2010 cross country season on Saturday at Fordham's annual invitational at Van Cortlandt Park.
Both teams were the top Division II finishers in the field, with the men placing fifth of 13 schools and the women sixth out of 18. The women's team improved on their ninth-place finish from a year ago, while the men were second last season but have a couple of key runners due to injury at the start of the year.
Mascoli's time of 18:32 was the second-fastest by an ESU runner at Fordham and was 15 seconds behind the winner, Kerri Gallagher of Fordham. Sophomore
Corinne Fitzgerald was 23rd for ESU in 19:52, followed by freshman
Kim Lowry (49th), sophomore
Cassandra Lacorazza (51st) and freshman
Kim Wernerspach (54th).
Laraia posted a time of 26:25, edging Michael Belgiovine of Fordham by two seconds for third place. Sophomore
Amr Aldeen placed 20th, sophomore
Jim Romano was 36th, sophomore
Jared Wilson was 43rd and junior
Tom Zarnoch placed 52nd to round out the Warriors' scorers.
ESU is back in action next weekend at the Monmouth Invitational.
