CALDWELL, N.J. – East Stroudsburg University won all three doubles matches and the three singles matches that were completed for a 6-0 win at Caldwell on Monday in its 2010-11 women's tennis season opener.
The Warriors went 14-9 last season and made the first appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament in school history led by three All-PSAC selections, seniors
Katie D'Ambrosia and
Jamie Ferrigno and junior
Amanda Kaufman.
D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno finished their junior year as the No. 6-ranked doubles team in the ITA Atlantic Region, going 20-6 overall. The posted an 8-1 win over Caldwell's top doubles team to go to 47-21 as a doubles tandem in their careers at ESU.
Kaufman won 6-0, 6-0 to begin her third season at No. 1 singles and Ferrigno was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3. Graduate student
Jessica Wilson won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while the other three singles matches were unfinished or not started due to weather.
Kaufman and Lausch won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and Wilson and freshman
Annie Vega were 8-2 winners at the No. 3 doubles slot. Kaufman and Lausch teamed up just once in doubles last season.
The Warriors will play a pair of matches this weekend at Clarion, taking on the host Golden Eagles and IUP. The men's team will get its season underway next Tuesday vs. St. Thomas Aquinas at 3:30 p.m.
