Women’s Volleyball Falls to California, IUP in PSAC Crossover presented by State Farm

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University stretched three-time defending NCAA regional champion California to four sets in its first match on Friday at this weekend's PSAC Crossover presented by State Farm at Koehler Fieldhouse.

IUP remained undefeated at 10-0 with a 3-0 win over the Warriors to close the night. ESU returns to action on Saturday morning with a 10 a.m. match vs. Slippery Rock and takes on Clarion at 5:30 p.m. to wrap up the first crossover weekend of conference action.

Senior outside hitter Alyson Stark had 14 kills vs. California, including six of ESU's 13 kills in the first set in a 25-23 win. Stark reached double figures in kills for the fifth time in six matches before recording a team-high eight kills vs. IUP.

ESU's defense had four players reach double figures in digs against the Vulcans, who finished last season ranked No. 23 in the AVCA Division II poll. Cal won the final three sets, 25-13, 25-15 and 25-9.

Senior libero Lindsey Lullo had 25 digs, sophomore defensive specialist Katie O'Neill and freshman setter Allye Preziosi had 12 each and senior outside hitter Emily Detter recorded 11.

Preziosi also had 24 assists and senior middle blocker Brianne Bachman chipped in with five kills.

Against IUP, Preziosi had 18 assists and 14 digs, Lullo had 21 digs and O'Neill finished with 11. Stark's eight kills led the team and Bachman added five kills.

In the first two matches of the day, IUP beat Shippensburg 3-1 and California edged the Lady Raiders, 3-2. Shippensburg will remain in East Stroudsburg for the second day of action on Saturday.
