EAST STROUDSBURG – Five players scored goals and senior forward Jessica Frantz found the cage for the eighth straight game as No. 3 East Stroudsburg University defeated No. 5 Kutztown, 5-2, in PSAC East field hockey on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

The Warriors improve to 8-0 (2-0 PSAC East), tying the school record with their eighth consecutive win and setting a new mark for the longest undefeated start to a season. ESU travels to No. 4 Bloomsburg on Saturday to face the four-time defending national champion Huskies in another showdown of teams ranked in the top 5 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll.

Frantz, the leading scorer in Division II, scored the Warriors' final goal of the game on a penalty corner with 4:00 left for her 19th goal of the season to cap a four-goal second half for ESU.

Senior midfielder Joanna Reckley scored the only goal of the first half at the 20:39 mark to give ESU a halftime lead, and senior forward Caitlin Brownley converted on a breakaway just under three minutes into the second half to extend the advantage.

Senior forward Brittany Kocis had a hand in the final three goals, scoring putting ESU ahead 4-1 midway through the second half and notching assists on goals by sophomore forward Alyson Becker at the 20-minute mark and Frantz's goal with four minutes to play. Kocis entered the week tied for third in Division II in assists and now has seven assists in her first seven games.

Kutztown received second-half goals from Abbey Sheeler and Erin Reynolds, who scored on a penalty corner with eight seconds left. Sheeler's goal cut the margin to 3-1 after Becker extended the lead with her first goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung made eight saves for ESU and improved to 23-7 in her 30th career start. Emily Falko had five saves in the cage for Kutztown.

ESU held a 22-13 advantage in shots, including 13 shots in the second half. Both teams had 10 penalty corners.

The Warriors tied the 1996 team with eight consecutive victories, and broke a tie with the 1949 team which opened with a 7-0 record before tying Temple, 1-1, in its final game of the season.

Saturday's game at Bloomsburg is for sole possession of first place in the PSAC East. The Huskies are 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference action, suffering their only loss (3-1) in a non-conference at Shippensburg last Saturday.
