EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior midfielder
Devon Miniscalco broke a scoreless tie in the 41st minute, and senior forward
Lindsay Foder added another goal early in the second half as East Stroudsburg University defeated Concord, 2-0, in non-conference women's soccer on Sunday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Miniscalco, the Warriors' leading scorer with 12 goals last season, had a penalty kick saved in the 38th minute but came back with her first goal of the year three minutes later to get ESU (1-0-1) on the board.
Foder had seven goals and six assists a year ago and found the net on a pass from sophomore midfielder
Marissa Spitler in the 51st minute. Spitler assisted on a goal by sophomore midfielder
Breanne Ingargiola late in regulation in the Warriors' 1-1 tie vs. Assumption on Friday night.
Junior goalkeeper
Melissa Myers made two saves, both in the first five minutes of the game, to record the second solo shutout of her career. Myers had six saves and allowed just a first-half penalty kick in the season opener.
ESU had a 29-4 advantage in shots after Concord (0-2) held a 3-0 edge in the opening minutes. The Warriors outshot the Mountain Lions 17-0 in the second half. Kacey Hildabrand made eight saves in goal for the visitors.
The Warriors open their 14-game PSAC schedule next weekend with games at Clarion on Friday and Edinboro on Saturday. The conference's new single-division format means ESU will play just two more non-conference games this season, both in late October.
In the final game of the tournament, No. 22 Kutztown used four 2nd-half goals to defeat Assumption, 5-1. Megan Black scored two goals for the Golden Bears, while Assumption's Nicole Savi converted a 2nd-half penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1 before Kutztown pulled away. (
