ESU Wrestling Falls 24-22 at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE – East Stroudsburg University won six of the seven bouts on the mat, including a pin by senior Jesse Dunn at 165 pounds, but took a 24-22 loss at Wilkes University on Thursday night.

Dunn pinned Brandon Dixon 45 seconds into the third period for the first of four straight victories for the Warriors to close the match after trailing 24-6 through the first six bouts.

Redshirt senior Jeff Jacobs (174) won a 5-3 decision over Dustin Stough, junior James Gonzalez (184) had an 8-2 decision over Seth Gray, and redshirt junior Ed Ebewo (197) posted an 11-3 major decision over David Oberrender and earned three near fall points in the third period but couldn't put Oberrender on his back to tie the match.

Sophomore Will Weaver (285) and redshirt junior Adam Hluschak (141) also won by decision, but ESU couldn't overcome giving up 18 points due to forfeits at 125, 133 and 149.

Shane Everett was the only wrestler to post a victory on the mat for the Colonels, notching a first-period pin at 157 for the No. 17-ranked team in Division III.

Hluschak and Weaver both earned their 18th wins of the season, improving to 18-11 and 18-12 respectively. Jacobs is 12-6 on the season, 8-2 in duals, and notched his 49th career win in three years.

ESU falls to 4-9 going into its first home dual of the season on Saturday against American International. The Warriors are 17-11 on the mat in their last four duals but have been forced to forfeit a total of 10 bouts due to attrition and injuries.
