Box Score

MANSFIELD – Mallory Moore had 26 points and 15 rebounds and Nicole Pender had 16 points and 11 assists to lead Mansfield to a 74-62 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.

Redshirt junior forward Brittany McClain (25 points) and junior guard Jennifer Scherer (15 points) both had career-highs for the Warriors (4-11, 1-2 PSAC East), who were 13-for-21 from the three-point line for their most made three's since hitting 14 against Goldey Beacom in November 2004.

Mansfield (6-9, 1-2) was perfect from the foul line on 19 attempts, with Moore going 9-for-9 and Pender 6-for-6, and shot 13-for-13 in the second half. Moore also cleaned up on the offensive glass, with 11 of Mansfield's 22 rebounds on the offensive end, and the Mounties held a 46-34 rebounding advantage for the game.

The Mounties made 10 free throws in the final 8:14 after ESU pulled within 51-48 on a layup by McClain, who scored 16 of her 25 points in the second half. She had 11 of the Warriors' final 16 points and closed the margin to 55-53 with just over seven minutes left, but ESU wouldn't get any closer as Moore scored six of Mansfield's next nine points to open a seven-point lead at the four-minute media timeout.

Scherer was 5-for-6 from the three-point line and hit her first five, three in the first half and two more on back-to-back possessions at the 17-minute mark of the second half to stake the Warriors to a 42-38 lead after they trailed 36-31 at halftime despite going 8-for-11 from long range.

Pender had six points and two assists on the Mounties' ensuing 11-2 run that gave them the lead for good. The junior guard accounted for nearly two-thirds of Mansfield's 38 points in the second half with 12 points and six assists.

ESU hit more three-pointers (13) than two-pointers (11) in a game for the first time since November 2002 at LIU-Southampton, with Scherer going 5-for-6, McClain 4-for-6, freshman guard Andrea Veres 3-for-8 and sophomore guard Barb Borst 1-for-1. The Warriors shot 61.9 percent from long distance and a season-best 40.7 percent from the field, but were 11-for-38 (28.9 percent) inside the arc.

Veres finished with nine points, five rebounds and tied a career-high with seven assists, shooting 3-for-16 from the field. Sophomore forward Mia Waring had a career-high 10 rebounds, seven on the offensive end, but shot 2-for-11.

Mansfield shot 36.2 percent but made up the difference with their 22 offensive rebounds and 19-for-19 performance at the foul line. Moore was 8-for-19 and Pender shot 5-for-13, while Meredith Hafer and Jena Matter both scoring eight points and Kayla Espigh adding seven.

ESU will play its third straight road game on Saturday with a trip to Kutztown for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
