EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt freshman
Brendan McKeown, ranked No. 3 at 184 pounds, leads seven East Stroudsburg University wrestlers in the Super Region One rankings entering the Mid-Atlantic Duals at Ashland, Ohio on Saturday.
The Warriors are ranked No. 19 in Division II and fifth in the region and will take on West Liberty (W.V.), which is tied for No. 15 in the nation and ranked fourth in the region, in their first match of the day.
ESU will face either No. 18 Ashland or Belmont Abbey (N.C.) in its second match. The top half of the bracket features Gannon, Indianapolis, Seton Hill and No. 17 Adams State (Colorado).
McKeown is joined in the regional rankings by freshman
Jordan Toledo (133, 6th), redshirt junior
Adam Hluschak (141, 5th), redshirt junior
Thad Frick (165, 6th), redshirt senior
Jeff Jacobs (174, 5th), redshirt junior
Ed Ebewo (197, 4th) and sophomore
Will Weaver (285, 6th).
The Warriors bring a 4-5 dual record into the weekend after going 3-0 at the Mercyhurst Duals in their last action as a team on December 18. They were 1-4 against Division I programs and still have Binghamton remaining at the end of their schedule, but will face primarily Division II competition in duals the rest of the season.
ESU's upper weights posted a 14-1 record at the Mercyhurst Duals and will be tested by a West Liberty squad that has three of the region's top-ranked wrestlers – Seth Phalen at 157, Mitch Knapp at 197 and J.D. Ramsey at 285. Knapp is ranked No. 3 in Division II and is a returning All-American, and Ramsey is No. 6 in the nation and was also a national qualifier.
Hluschak is ESU's returning national qualifier after placing second in the region and in the top 12 in Division II last season. His 14-11 record includes 18 matches against Division I opponents, and two of his three Division II foes are ranked in the top four in the region.
