EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore midfielder
Brielle Kessel had a goal and an assist as part of a three-goal run late in the first half and senior goalkeeper
Maureen Ordnung had 11 saves in East Stroudsburg University's 3-0 shutout of No. 8-ranked Kutztown in PSAC East field hockey on Tuesday.
All three ESU goals came in a span of 6:57, starting with Kessel's unassisted goal with 9:29 left in the first half. Junior forward
Lauren Ventrella redirected a drive by sophomore forward
Gabrielle Seibert for a 2-0 lead four minutes later, and Kessel assisted on a goal by freshman forward
Jessica Lawville with 2:32 left in the half.
Ordnung entered the game ranked second in Division II with 8.6 saves per game and had six in the first half, when Kutztown (8-5, 3-3) held a 9-0 advantage in shots midway through the period. The Warriors had the final eight shots of the half, including all three goals.
Kutztown had advantages of 16-10 in shots and 9-2 in corners and outshot ESU 7-2 in the second half, but Ordnung made five more saves to secure her third shutout of the season and second solo shutout. Her 14 career shutouts are tied for fifth in school history.
ESU (7-8, 2-5) avenged a 4-1 loss at Kutztown on Sept. 21 and improves to 5-3 against the Golden Bears since 2008. The Warriors have won all four home games in that stretch.
ESU finished a six-game homestand and will face two of the top three teams in Division II in its next two games. The Warriors travel to No. 1 Bloomsburg on Saturday and host No. 3 West Chester in their home finale next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
