EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior forward
Lauren Ventrella gave East Stroudsburg University a first-half lead and the defense held Limestone to seven shots in a 3-1 victory in non-conference field hockey on Sunday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
Junior midfielder
Mallory Pope and freshman forward
Jessica Lawville added second-half goals for the Warriors (5-7), who won all three non-conference home games this weekend against Mercyhurst (3-2), Slippery Rock (2-0) and Limestone.
Senior midfielder
Amanda McGuire assisted on Ventrella's team-leading seventh goal of the season with just under 15 minutes left in the first half. Ventrella has scored four goals in ESU's last seven games, including both goals in a 5-2 loss at No. 2 West Chester on Tuesday before the current three-game winning streak. McGuire had her 10th career assist.
Pope's third goal of the year, assisted by freshman midfielder
Becky Gagliardi, came midway through the second half and Lawville's first career goal made the score 3-0 with 10 minutes to play.
Limestone (6-2) got on the board with 2:14 remaining when Rachel Goromonzi found the cage after a scramble in front of the goal.
Senior
Maureen Ordnung had five saves on seven shots by the Saints. ESU had 22 shots, eight on goal, with Limestone goalkeeper Lindsay Hinton making five saves before being removed for Rachael Sanders with seven minutes left.
The Warriors finish the first half of PSAC East play against Millersville on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the fourth game of a season-high six-game homestand. ESU is looking for its first conference victory this season.
ESU recognized its 2001 NCAA Division II runner-up team at halftime. The squad, which included All-Americans Shannon McCracken, Rachel Miller and Kelly Wagner, went 16-7 and upset Lock Haven, 1-0, in the national semifinals before falling 4-2 to Bentley in the championship game.
