SLIPPERY ROCK – Junior Rose Mascoli broke the 22-minute barrier on the 6K course for her fourth straight victory and East Stroudsburg University's men's and women's squads both claimed team titles in college cross country at the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday.

Mascoli has won individual titles at Fordham, Monmouth, Salisbury and now Slippery Rock and helped the Warriors to their second straight team victory. She ran a time of 21:59.1 for a 15-second margin over junior Corinne Fitzgerald, who had her first career runner-up performance and ninth career top 10.

Sophomores Kim Wernerspach (10th, 23:33.0) and Kim Lowry (18th, 24:06.8) and junior Bridget McCarron (21st, 24:21.6) rounded out ESU's top five for a 10-point margin of victory (52-62) over Slippery Rock. The NCAA Atlantic Regionals will be contested on the same course on November 5.

The men continued their strong team showing with their third victory in four meets this season, led by senior Greg Laraia, who was second in 26:19.6 (8K) one week after setting the Warriors' course record at the Don Cathcart Invitational at Salisbury.

ESU had five of the top nine finishers with freshman Chris Schneider running fourth in 26:29.8, junior Amr Aldeen fifth in 26:37.2, junior Frank Fezza eighth in 26:44.8 and junior Jim Romano ninth in 26:49.7. Junior Mike Pereira (14th) and freshman Steve Ruch (20th) were also in the top 20.

The meet served as the final tune-up for the PSAC Championships, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 at Lock Haven after they were moved from Mansfield's venue due to course conditions from recent flooding.
