Clarion Posts 63-47 Win over ESU Women’s Basketball

EAST STROUDSBURG – Emma Fickel scored 18 points, Raven Jones had 14 points and seven assists and Ann Deibert added 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead Clarion to a 63-47 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC women's basketball on Sunday at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Golden Eagles (1-2, 1-1 PSAC) led from tip to finish in building a 38-19 halftime lead, and opened the second half on an 11-4 run.

Senior guard Cyara Woodridge scored 12 of her team-high 19 points in the second half for ESU (0-2, 0-2 PSAC). Junior forward Fayola Moise added eight points and eight rebounds and freshman forward Jessica Martin had four points, three rebounds and five blocks.

Fickel scored Clarion's first six points and Jones had 10 points and five assists at halftime as the Golden Eagles shot 54.8 percent. Jones had five points and three assists in an 18-4 run that pushed the Clarion lead to 24-8 with just over seven minutes left in the half, hit another three-pointer to stretch the lead to 18 and set up a layup by Courtney Healey to make it a 19-point game.

Junior guard Barb Borst made back-to-back three-pointers in ESU's best stretch in the second half, but Fickel answered with a three for Clarion. Woodridge scored the Warriors' last eight points over the final six minutes.

Clarion shot 47.2 percent for the game compared to 36.0 for ESU. Clarion held a 40-29 advantage in rebounds, led by nine each from Healey and Mackenzie Clark. Both teams committed 20 turnovers.

ESU is off until Saturday when it hosts the 47th Annual Pocono Classic at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Warriors host Georgian Court in the second game on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Concordia (N.Y.) in the second game on Sunday at 5 p.m. Notre Dame College (Ohio) will also participate.
