BETHLEHEM – Junior Kyle Soden won the high jump with an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 6-8 3/4 to lead East Stroudsburg University at the season-opening Lehigh Fast Times on Friday.

Senior Ian Melhorn was second in the men's 60m dash in 7.02 seconds, one-hundredth off the school record set by Asher Ashfield last year and one-hundredth faster than his previous career-best in the event.

Sophomore Cory Kresge was second in the long jump at 22-5 1/2. In the weight throw, freshman Travis Toth broke the ESU freshman record of 43-9 that was held by Paul Wagner with a throw of 44-5 3/4 in his ESU debut and placed ninth.

Freshman Danielle Smith led the women, winning the 60m dash and placing third in the 200m in her ESU debut. Smith ran a time of 7.81 in the 60m dash, two-hundredths off the school record held by junior Lauren Ventrella, and was third in the 200m in 26.16.

Ventrella was second in the 60m hurdles in 9.18, topping her season best from a year ago as she looks to return to the form that made her the school record-holder and PSAC champion as a freshman in 2010.

Sophomore Laura Beimfohr, another school record holder, cleared 11-1 3/4 to win the pole vault. Sophomore Elizabeth Madden threw 47-11 3/4 in the weight to finish fourth after setting the freshman record at 46-0 1/2 last year.
