Ed Ebewo, wrestling up at 285 pounds for the first time in his career, won a 2-1 overtime decision over Ron Oswald to give East Stroudsburg University a 22-19 victory over Seton Hill on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Quad.
The Warriors rallied from a 13-0 deficit through the first four bouts, starting with a major decision by redshirt sophomore
Braden Turner at 157 and a forfeit victory for redshirt senior
Thad Frick at 165. Junior
Tony Vorndran used a second-period escape for a 1-0 decision at 174, and after Zach Benzio won by fall for Seton Hill at 184, freshman
Zachary Koller received a forfeit win at 197.
Ebewo, ranked No. 7 in Division II at 197, gave the Warriors the victory with his decision over Oswald, ranked No. 4 at heavyweight in Super Region 1. Ebewo gained an escape and then rode out Oswald to complete the first overtime period.
In the second match of the day, No. 8-ranked Mercyhurst topped ESU, 33-14.Redshirt senior
Adam Hluschak, ranked No. 4 in Division II, won by technical fall (18-3) at 141, redshirt senior
Andrew Ritchie won a 3-0 decision at 149 and Frick won by fall in 4:47 at 165.
Mercyhurst had six regionally-ranked wrestlers who all posted wins. Jordan Shields, ranked No. 3 in Division II and a returning All-American, had a hard-fought 5-1 decision over Turner at 157. No. 7-ranked Fred Hale, a national qualifier last year, decisioned redshirt junior
Joe Blaes, 8-2, at 285.
Frick, coming off a runner-up finish in the PSAC Championships last Saturday, had his first pin of the season and improved to 13-3, winning by fall and forfeit. Hluschak posted his 10th career technical fall and has 33 bonus point wins in 64 career victories.
The Warriors, 3-4 in dual action, won't wrestle another dual for nearly a month when they host Navy on January 13 at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Wilkes Open, on December 28, will be ESU's next action.
