ESU Women’s Basketball Falls to USP, 59-33

EAST STROUDSBURG – Brianne Traub scored 21 points and Becca Ruggear had 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the University of the Sciences to a 59-33 win at East Stroudsburg University in non-conference women's basketball on Monday at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Senior guard Cyara Woodridge had 12 points and eight rebounds and sophomore forward Nicole Hill pulled down nine rebounds and scored three points for ESU (3-6), which was playing for the first time since Dec. 10 and will return to the floor on Dec. 30 at Philadelphia University.

USP (5-4) scored 20 of the game's first 23 points to pull away early, with the Warriors getting within 10 points (20-10) with a 7-0 run in the first half and within 12 points (35-23) early in the second half. USP led 33-17 at halftime and won the second half, 26-16.

USP shot 29.0 percent (18-62) and ESU shot 20.7 percent (12-58), but the Devils were 22-for-30 at the foul line after entering as one of the top free throw shooting teams in Division II. ESU was 8-for-19 at the charity stripe. USP held a 55-44 advantage in rebounds and both teams committed less than 20 turnovers.

Freshman guard Ryann Fiascki scored four points in the 7-0 stretch as the Warriors held USP scoreless for 2:30, but the Devils came back with the next five points and stretched their advantage to 16 by halftime.

Junior forward Fayola Moise scored all four of her points early in the second half to help ESU trim the margin to 12 (35-23) four minutes into the period. Once again, USP responded with a run, scoring the next seven points capped by a three-pointer by Jessica Sylvester, and led by at least 16 the rest of the way.
