BLOOMSBURG – Redshirt senior
Adam Hluschak remained undefeated at 4-0, with two major decisions and a decision at 141 pounds, as East Stroudsburg University went 1-2 against three Division I programs on Saturday at the Bloomsburg Duals.
The Warriors opened the day with a tough 23-20 setback to George Mason before rebounding with a 41-9 thrashing of Sacred Heart. Bloomsburg finished the day with a 41-4 win over ESU to finish the quad meet with a 3-0 record.
ESU, which had a 23-14 win over Wilkes in its dual opener on November 21, went 10-7 on the mat and gained three forfeits in its first two matches on Saturday.
The Warriors led George Mason throughout their opener before the Patriots got 16 points between two pins at 174 and 184 and major decision at 285 to escape with a 23-20 victory.
Freshman 125-pounder
Zach Jones had a pin against George Mason and a 15-0 technical fall against Sacred Heart to get the Warriors off to good starts in both duals.
Against George Mason, Hluschak had an 11-3 major decision at 141, redshirt sophomore
Braden Turner (157) had a 4-0 decision and redshirt senior
Thad Frick (165) had an 18-9 major decision to put ESU ahead 17-7, but the Patriots rallied late. Redshirt senior
Ed Ebewo had an 11-6 decision at 197 to give ESU a 20-19 edge going into the final bout but George Mason closed with a major decision at 285.
ESU had four bonus point wins and three forfeit victories against Sacred Heart. Jones and redshirt senior
Andrew Ritchie (149) earned technical falls, both by 15-0 scores, senior
James Gonzalez had a third-period pin at 184 and Ebewo won an 11-2 major decision at 197. Turner, Frick and redshirt junior
Joe Blaes (285) all won by forfeit and Hluscak had an 8-3 decision.
Hluschak was the Warriors' only winner in their match-up with Bloomsburg, posting a 9-0 major decision over Matthew Hicks to go 3-0 on the day. The Huskies had four falls and two major decisions among their nine victories. Frank Hickman, ranked No. 13 in Division I, handed Turner his first loss of the season, 17-6, at 157.
Frick reached an individual milestone with his 50th career win at ESU in running his record to 3-1 on the season with two major decisions. He is 28-16 in dual action for the Warriors between 157 and 165.
The Warriors (2-2) return to Division II action on Wednesday with a home dual against Pitt-Johnstown at 7 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse. UPJ is No. 8 in Division II and No. 3 in Super Region 1 in preseason rankings.
