GROVE CITY – Junior Sami Vavra set the school record in the 100 breast and contributed to the school record-setting 400 medley relay team at the Grove City Winter Invitational on Friday and Saturday in western Pennsylvania.

Vavra swam a time of 1:07.22 to win the event and shave 26-hundredths of a second off the 100 breast record set by Sarah Roscioli during her senior season last year. She also won the 200 breast in 2:30.67, just under a half-second off Roscioli's school record, and was third in the 200 IM with a personal best of 2:15.30.

Junior Kimberly Lawson, Vavra and sophomores Allison Schafer and Andrea Tremper combined for a time of 4:04.88 in the 400 medley relay, taking 74-hundredths off the record of 4:05.62 set in 2010. Lawson also swam on that record-setting team as a freshman along with Roscioli, Christine Swiker and Tara Robinson. Lawson swam a 1:01.05 split in the back, followed by Vavra (1:07.42) in the breast, Schafer (1:02.25) in the fly and Tremper (54.16) in the free.

The Warriors finished third in the team standings with 707 points. Washington & Jefferson won with 1,227 points, followed by Misericordia (976), ESU, Grove City (484), Hiram (233), Franciscan (102) and Malone (48) in the seven-school event.

Lawson and freshman Karoline Vavra joined Sami Vavra as double-winners for ESU.

Lawson had a personal best of 2:13.26 to win in the 200 IM and clocked 1:00.15 to win the 100 fly. She was second in the 200 fly in 2:18.97 and was on the winning 400 free relay and swam on three second-place relays.

Karoline Vavra won the 50 free in 24.85, the third-fastest time since ESU's program was reinstated in 1995, and the 100 free in 54.32, the second-fastest since 1995. She was second in the 200 free (1:59.20) and was on two winning relays (200 free, 400 free) and two runner-up relays.

Tremper was third in both the 50 free (24.97, personal best) and 100 free (54.90), contributed to the winning 200 and 400 free relays and the second-place 200 and 400 medley relays. Schafer was second in the 500 free with a season-best 5:25.75 and was fourth in the 200 fly (2:23.31). Freshman Melissa Smith was third in the 200 free (2:03.96) and freshman Shelby Stalnaker was third in the 100 back (1:03.54). Freshman Danielle Davis was on the winning 200 and 400 free relays.

The Warriors are off until the Key West Invitational in the first week of January and resume dual action the following week.
