ERIE – East Stroudsburg University forced 31 turnovers but saw its three-game winning streak come to an end as Mercyhurst posted a 59-43 win in PSAC women's basketball on Sunday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

The Lakers (2-4, 2-2 PSAC) turned it over 15 times in the first half and 16 more in the second, but managed to shoot 20-for-38 (52.6 percent) from the field and 17-for-22 at the foul line to provide enough offense to overcome the Warriors (3-3, 1-3), who were coming off a 60-50 win at Slippery Rock on Saturday.

Junior forward Fayola Moise had 11 points and four steals to lead ESU, which had 27 turnovers and shot 32.7 percent (16-49) overall, 1-for-11 from the three-point line and 10-for-24 at the foul line. Freshman guard Ryann Fiascki scored a season-high eight points and senior guard Cyara Woodridge and sophomore guard Andrea Veres scored seven each.

Kaylee Foster scored 13 points, Nikki Frederickson had 12 and Dana Banda added 10 despite 11 turnovers for Mercyhurst. The Lakers held a 37-26 advantage in rebounds and pulled down 11 offensive rebounds, compared to eight defensive rebounds for ESU. The Warriors had 18 offensive rebounds; Mercyhurst pulled down 26 on the defensive end.

Mercyhurst led throughout, going up as many as 14 (23-9) in the first half, before ESU got within 29-20 at halftime. The second-half lead got to 41-26 with just under 12 minutes left before the Warriors rattled off a 10-0 run to pull within five at the seven-minute mark.

Veres started the stretch with ESU's only three-pointer and freshman forward Jessica Martin followed with a layup, assisted by redshirt senior forward Brittany McClain. McClain also set up a layup by Veres after redshirt freshman guard Steph Cabald went 1-for-2 at the foul line to make it 41-34, and Moise had a putback basket to narrow the margin to 41-36.

Mercyhurst came back with the next six points before ESU cut the gap to 47-40 when Cabald hit a pair of free throws with 2:22 remaining. The Lakers scored the next time down and went 10-for-10 at the foul line in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

ESU is away from action until next Friday and Saturday, hosting IUP at 5:30 p.m. and California at 2 p.m. in PSAC play.
