EAST STROUDSBURG – Seniors Sarah Roscioli and Amy Rowland lead a young group of eight East Stroudsburg University swimmers who will compete in individual events at the 2011 PSAC Swimming Championships, which begin on Thursday night at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.

Sophomores Kimberly Lawson, Tara Robinson and Sami Vavra and freshmen Katie McKee, Allison Schafer and Andrea Tremper are also qualified for the Warriors, and sophomore Ana Osowski may also compete on one of the five relay teams.

Roscioli, ESU's record holder at all three distances in the breast stroke, has made the consolation finals in the 100 and 200 breast in each of the last two PSAC championships and also reached the 100 breast consolation finals as a freshman. She has the team's best times in the 50 free (25.18), 100 breast (1:08.79) and 200 breast (2:33.23) this season and set the 100 and 200 breast records at last year's PSAC meet.

Schafer broke the Warriors' school record in the 500 free with a time of 5:16.27 at the Grove City Invitational and will also compete in the 200 fly and 400 IM. She has the second-fastest time in school history in the 400 IM (4:48.09) behind Christine Swiker, last year's Female Senior Athlete of the Year at ESU, who was fifth in the conference in the 200 and 400 IM last season.

Rowland, who competed individually for the first time at last year's PSAC Championships, has ESU's season best in the 200 free (2:02.39) and will also swim the 50 free and 100 back. The senior was a member of the Warriors' relay teams at PSAC championships in her first two seasons.

The Warriors' sophomores, Lawson, Robinson and Vavra, are all conference qualifiers for the second straight year. Lawson has ESU's top time in the 100 fly (1:00.14) and will also compete in the 50 free and either the 100 free or 200 fly. Robinson will swim the 50 free (25.21), 100 free (54.69) and 100 fly, and Vavra will go in the 200 IM (2:12.49) and 100 and 200 breast.

McKee, ESU's top backstroker, will make her conference debut in the 50 free, 100 back (1:02.40) and 200 back (2:17.80). Tremper, a freestyler, has season best times of 25.28 in the 50, 55.01 in the 100 and 2:04.80 in the 200.

In the relays, Vavra, Roscioli, Lawson and Rowland turned in top times of 1:51.58 in the 200 medley and 4:07.01 in the 400 medley. The season bests in the freestyle relays are 1:40.00 in the 200 (Vavra, Rowland, Lawson, Roscioli), 3:42.25 in the 400 (Vavra, Tremper, Lawson, Roscioli) and 8:23.78 in the 800 (Schafer, Lauren Kammerer, Robinson, Rowland).
