Box Score

MILLERSVILLE – Aurielle Mosley had 22 points, 18 rebounds and seven blocked shots and set Millersville single-season records for rebounds and blocks to lead the Marauders to a 75-64 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Wednesday night at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Junior guard Cyara Woodridge had career-highs of 22 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double for ESU (5-18, 2-9), which used a late rally to cut a 17-point lead by Millersville (19-4, 9-2) to nine points with just over a minute to go. Woodridge scored 13 of ESU's 38 points in the second half and also tied her career-high with four steals.

Freshman guard Andrea Veres added to Woodridge's total with 18 points for ESU, just missing the Warriors' third game with two 20-point scorers this season. Veres was 5-for-9 from the field, 3-for-6 from the three-point line and 5-for-5 at the foul line while Woodridge shot 9-for-17 overall, 2-for-3 from long distance and 2-for-2 at the stripe.

Mosley had 16 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in the first half as the Marauders built a 38-26 halftime lead, holding ESU scoreless over the final seven minutes of the first half and the first three minutes of the second half. The PSAC's top rebounder (12.8) and second-leading shot blocker (3.0), Mosley had 25 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks in the first meeting as Millersville held off a late ESU run to win 62-59.

Mashira Newman, also a redshirt sophomore, added 19 points, eight assists and seven steals for Millersville, which had 18 steals and forced 29 ESU turnovers. The Marauders turned it over 27 times themselves, 17 in the second half, leading to 13 ESU steals.

Both teams went on big runs in the first half before Millersville settled into a double-figure lead. Mosley and Newman scored the first 11 points of a 14-3 run to open the game for the Marauders before ESU scored the next eight points – six from Woodridge and a layup by junior guard Jennifer Scherer – to get back within three.

Millersville responded with the next 10, getting six more of Mosley's 16 first half points, but sophomore guard Barb Borst ended the run with a layup, freshman forward Nicole Hill (four points, five rebounds, four steals) scored on an assist from Scherer and Veres knocked down a three-pointer to make it 24-18. Woodridge answered a Newman bucket with another three-pointer, and Veres' third triple of the first half got ESU within 30-26 before Millersville clamped down over the final seven minutes to lead by 12 at intermission.

Veres scored ESU's first points of the second half with 17:10 left, making three free throws after being fouled behind the line to end a 10-0 run. A three-pointer by Scherer made the score 43-32 a minute later, but that was as close as the Warriors would get until the final two minutes as Millersville led by as many as 20 (57-37) with 9:00 left and were up 17 (68-51) with 3:35 left before ESU rallied.

The Warriors went on a 9-1 run over the next two minutes, starting with a three-pointer by redshirt junior forward Brittany McClain. Woodridge hit a jumper, sophomore guard Angel Gaffney had a steal and layup and Woodridge scored after another steal to close the margin to nine points. Veres and Woodridge both scored their final points for ESU in the last minute, but Millersville was 6-for-8 at the foul line in the last minute to hold off the Warriors.

Millersville remains one game behind PSAC East leader Bloomsburg (18-5, 10-1) and is tied for second place with West Chester (18-5, 9-2). Kutztown (13-10, 6-5) has a one-game lead over Shippensburg for the division's final playoff spot.

ESU hosts Kutztown on Saturday at 1 p.m. in its WBCA “Pink Zone” game at Koehler Fieldhouse. All fans wearing pink will be admitted for half price ($3), and the game will be televised as part of a doubleheader on Blue Ridge TV-13 and available online through ESU Warriors “All Access”.
