Saturday results - Morning session / Evening session

MECHANICSBURG – Senior Sarah Roscioli broke her own school record in the 200 breast in the morning prelims and again in the evening session and also contributed to one of East Stroudsburg University's two school record-setting relay teams to highlight Saturday's competition at the PSAC Swimming Championships, being held at Cumberland Valley High School.

Roscioli dropped a half-second off her previous record, swimming times of 1:07.76 in the prelims and then to 1:07.48 in the consolation finals. Her standard entering the meet was 1:07.99, which she set at last year's PSAC Championships. She was 13th in the prelims and 12th in the consolation finals.

The Warriors broke a 33-year old record in the 200 medley relay to begin Saturday evening's events and finished it with another record in the 800 free relay, breaking the previous mark set in 2004.

Sophomore Sami Vavra (back, 28.79), Roscioli (breast, 30.29), sophomore Kimberly Lawson (fly, 26.84) and senior Amy Rowland (free, 25.06) compiled a time of 1:50.98 to edge the record of 1:51.73 set in 1978. Gale Cressman, Cathy Crigler, Karen Linck and Diane Adam comprised the original relay team, with Crigler and Linck eventually earning spots in the ESU Athletic Hall of Fame.

In the 800 free relay, freshman Allison Schafer, sophomore Tara Robinson, freshman Andrea Tremper and Rowland swam a time of 8:05.70 to take more than three seconds off the record of 8:09.00 set seven years ago by Kelly Wright, Julie Steele, Tori Bayliff and Lindsay Reese. Schafer swam the lead leg in 1:58.91, the third-best time in school history. Both relays finished 10th in the conference.

Two Warriors set season bests in the morning prelims, both in the 200 free, where Rowland swam a time of 2:01.43 and Tremper finished in 2:02.00. Lawson and Robinson competed in the 100 fly, Vavra swam in the 100 breast, freshman Katie McKee went in the 100 back and freshman Allison Schafer competed in the 400 IM.

The PSAC Championships will conclude on Sunday with the final set of individual events and the 400 free relay. ESU is 12th in the team standings with 59 points, one point behind Millersville.
