SHIPPENSBURG – Kasey Gardner closed her career with 28 points, eight rebounds, five assists and seven steals to lead Shippensburg to an 89-75 win over East Stroudsburg University in the season finale for both schools on Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House.
Gardner was two points off her career-high of 30 which she set against ESU last season and finishes her four years ranked sixth in Shippensburg history with 1,745 career points. The senior scored 20 points in the second half and played the entire game before leaving with 46 seconds remaining. Shippensburg outscored ESU, 53-47, in the final half of basketball of the season.
Gardner led five players in double figures for the Lady Raiders (12-14, 7-7). Shawna Wert had 18 points and eight assists, Monae Baker had 12 points and seven rebounds, Dana Wert had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists and Caitlin Bamberger added 10 points and eight boards.

ESU's 75 points and 41.9 percent shooting were both its second-highest figures of the season. The Warriors shot 26-for-62 from the field, 7-for-20 from the three-point line and 16-for-21 at the foul line led by a 6-for-6 performance by Veres.
At the other end, Shippensburg's 89 points were the second-most allowed by the Warriors this year as the Lady Raiders shot 47.7 percent from the field and 25-for-31 at the charity stripe. Shippensburg held a 45-32 advantage on the glass and a 23-19 margin in turnovers.
Shippensburg opened the game with a 16-2 run and led 21-6 before the Warriors scored the next 14 points to get within one with 7:10 left in the first half after back-to-back three-pointers by Scherer and Borst.
The Lady Raiders went on to lead 36-28 at halftime and extended the advantage to 21 with an 18-5 run in the first six minutes of the second half. ESU scored 28 points in the final eight minutes of the contest to get a 25-point deficit down to 14 at the final buzzer.
Veres, a five-time PSAC East Freshman of the Week, had her 11th double-figure game of the year and led the Warriors with 265 points (10.2 per game), 88 assists and 56 steals this season. Veres shot 80.2 percent (65-81) from the foul line, the 11th player to shoot better than 80 percent in school history.
Borst made three three-pointers at Shippensburg giving her 47 on the season, tied for fourth in school history. Her 84 career three's through two seasons rank fifth all-time. Veres made her 40th three-pointer of the year, making her and Borst the second set of teammates to hit 40 three-pointers in a season for the Warriors. Maryellen Onofre and Niki Cox both made 43 in 2004-05.
Sorber had three blocks and finishes the season with 44 rejections, fourth in ESU's record book. She also moved into sixth on the career list with 53 blocks in her first two years. The sophomore was ESU's top rebounder with 167 (6.7 per game) and had five double-figure rebounding efforts in the first 10 games of the season. Hill was second on the team with 5.8 rebounds per game and had 10 games with at least eight boards.
Woodridge averaged 12.8 points in 12 games, missing 14 games due to injury after playing briefly in the season opener. She was in double figures in nine of the 11 games she played after returning to the floor, including two double-doubles in the last four games.
