ESU Women’s Basketball Falls 99-61 at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG – Kayla Oxenrider scored 20 points to lead four players in double figures as Bloomsburg posted a 99-61 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Thursday night at Nelson Field House.

Dana Wieller scored 18 points, Kelsey Gallagher had 17 points and nine rebounds and Danielle Derr scored 11 points for the Huskies (14-5, 6-1), who got 71 points from their starters to maintain a share of the PSAC East lead going into Saturday's match-up with co-leader Millersville.

Junior guard Cyara Woodridge led ESU (4-15, 1-6) with 19 points and shot 8-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2 from the three-point line. Woodridge is averaging 15.5 points, shooting 55.6 percent from the field, and has hit double figures in all four games since returning from injury after the season opener

Sophomore guard Barb Borst scored 13 points, junior guard Jennifer Scherer had 11 points and freshman forward Nicole Hill had seven points, eight rebounds and a career-high five assists. Freshman guard Andrea Veres also added seven points.

Bloomsburg shot 62.1 percent in the first half to build a 53-20 lead, and both teams topped 40 points in a back-and-forth second half. The Huskies were 35-for-62 (56.5 percent) from the field, 8-for-26 from the three-point line and 21-for-25 (86 percent) at the foul line to close the first half of conference play.

The Warriors will look for the season sweep of Cheyney as they open the second half on Saturday. Four players scored in double figures, including a team-high 13 points from Veres, as ESU posted a 64-50 win over the Wolves on January 12.
