Box Score

CHEYNEY – Brittany Jenkins scored 28 points off the bench and Christalee Lynch had 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists to lead Cheyney to a 74-66 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Cope Hall.

Jenkins and Lynch both hit three-pointers in a three-minute span to extend Cheyney's lead from 48-44 to 56-46 with 5:18 left and the Wolves held at least a six-point advantage the rest of the way in a game that was closely contested throughout.

Junior guard Cyara Woodridge and sophomore guard Barb Borst scored 14 points each and freshman guard Andrea Veres had 13 points for ESU (4-16, 1-7), which beat Cheyney 64-50 in its conference opener on January 12 at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Jenkins and Lynch did most of their work in the second half as Cheyney outscored the Warriors 47-39 after the game was tied 27-27 at intermission. Jenkins scored 17 points and Lynch had nine points, eight rebounds and four assists after halftime, and Cheyney was 7-for-15 from the three-point line after ranking last in the PSAC in both three-point makes (2.2 per game) and percentage (18.1) entering the game. The Wolves were 3-for-14 from long distance in ESU's win last month.

ESU took its only lead of the second half 30 seconds into the period on a steal and jumper by Woodridge, who scored the Warriors' first six points of the half. Jenkins scored the first seven points of the half for Cheyney and gave the Wolves the lead for good with one of her five three-pointers with 17 minutes to play.

The Warriors closed the margin to one (38-37) with 13:00 remaining before Cheyney scored the next two buckets, then got within two (42-40) when Borst hit a three-pointer with 11:30 left. Jenkins hit two free throws to make it 44-40, a four-point margin that the Wolves maintained until Jenkins drilled her final three to put them ahead 51-44 with just over eight minutes left.

ESU tried to rally down the stretch, as Veres hit a three to make it 64-57 with 1:20 left and Borst made another triple to cut the margin to 66-60 in the final minute, but Cheyney was 10-for-12 at the foul line in the last 50 seconds to seal its second conference win of the year.

The Warriors return to Koehler Fieldhouse this week when they take on Mansfield on Wednesday and West Chester on Saturday. Tip-off on Wednesday night is slated for 6 p.m.
