WEST CHESTER – West Chester posted a 7-2 win in the women's match and a 5-4 decision on the men's side to sweep East Stroudsburg University in the Warriors' PSAC tennis openers on Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Rams' men outlasted the Warriors for their first PSAC win since 2003, also against ESU, in a match that saw the first four singles flights go to a third set.
ESU (0-5, 0-1)won four of the six singles matches after West Chester (5-10, 1-1) took a 3-0 lead at the conclusion of doubles play, but West Chester's Jimmy Aridas notched a 4-6, 6-2 (11-9) win in a third set tiebreaker over junior

Zach Ontell (No. 6) earned singles wins for ESU. Norris defeated Matt Thomas 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, Rosenberg notched a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win over David Goldenberg, and Covert and Ontell dropped just three games between them at the bottom of the lineup. West Chester's Steve Hlava won 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 over junior

In doubles, West Chester pulled out three close matches, including a 9-8 (7-5) victory at No. 3. Hlava and Connor Dunn knocked off Baxter and Norris, 8-6, at No. 1, Goldenberg and Alan Day had an 8-6 win over Rosenberg and Makos at No. 2, and Thomas and J.J. Cooke posted their tiebreaker win over Ontell and Covert at the final spot.
In the women's match, the Warriors (3-4, 0-1) won the top two singles flights but were blanked in doubles. Ali Fetter (No. 3 singles, No. 2 doubles) and Kara Shumock (No. 6 singles, No. 3 doubles) both had two victories for the Golden Rams (8-7, 1-0).
Junior
Amanda Kaufman had a 6-4, 6-4 win over Brittany Counts at No. 1 singles and senior
Katie D'Ambrosia recorded a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) win over Luisi Souto at No. 2. Senior
Jamie Ferrigno took a 6-2, 7-5 loss to Fetter at No. 3 and West Chester had too much depth at the bottom of the lineup.
Doubles play included an 8-4 win for Counts and Souto over D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno at No. 1, a 9-7 victory for Fetter and Tara Krauss over Kaufman and sophomore
Rabecca Lausch at No. 2, and Shumock and Nicole Paller posted an 8-3 win against freshman
Annie Vega and graduate student
Jessica Wilson at No. 3.
Both teams take on Kutztown in their next action this week. The men travel to Kutztown on Thursday and the women host the Golden Bears on Friday.
