CLERMONT, Fla. – Junior
Alex Schubert hit a pinch-hit, walk-off grand slam in an 8-6 win over Southern New Hampshire as East Stroudsburg University went 2-0 on Sunday in the first two games of its 10-game trip to Florida over spring break.
The Warriors beat St. Joseph's (Ind.), 4-1, in its first game behind an eight-hitter from senior
Caitlin Monahan and two-hit games from Schubert and seniors
Brittany Racek and
Alicea Ashe.
ESU improved to 5-2 on the season with its rally from a 6-4 deficit in the bottom of the seventh against Southern New Hampshire. Senior OF
Julia Collins started the comeback with a one-out single, junior 3B
Rachel Gieringer walked and Ashe reached on an error before Schubert pinch-hit for junior C
Samantha Capriotti and ended the game with her second home run of the season.
Freshman
Amanda McKay picked up the win with 2.0 innings of relief (one run, three hits, two strikeouts) after freshman
Laura Suits went the first 5.0 innings. Suits gave up five runs (two earned) on six hits, struck out three and walked three.
ESU took a 3-0 lead in the third when senior OF
Jamie Mingis hit a one-out triple and scored on a base hit by Racek, and Gieringer hit a two-run, two-out homer one batter later.
The lead was shortlived as Southern New Hampshire struck for five runs (two earned) in the top of the fourth. The Penmen used four hits, a hit batter and two errors to take a 5-3 lead.
The Warriors got one run back in the fifth when Collins walked with one out and scored after Gieringer reached on an error on the pitcher. Southern New Hampshire scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead, but ESU rallied in the bottom of the inning to win it.
In the win over St. Joseph's, Monahan struck out three, didn't allow a walk and gave up just an unearned run while stranding nine runners on base. All eight hits by St. Joseph's were singles and they left at least one runner on base in every inning.

Brittany Zanzalari. St. Joseph's scored its only run in the bottom of the inning, but ESU quickly regained the lead in the top of the third with two runs on four this.
Racek opened the inning with a leadoff double and Gieringer singled with one out before an RBI single by Ashe to put ESU ahead 2-1. Schubert followed with a two-out RBI single later in the inning, and the Warriors scored their final run with a two-out rally in the sixth when Collins doubled after a single by Racek.
ESU will play two games on Monday, facing Limestone (S.C.) at 9:30 a.m. and Winona State (Minn.) at 11:30 a.m.
