ESU Women’s Tennis Tops Catholic, Men Fall to Brevard in Hilton Head, SC

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Junior Amanda Kaufman and seniors Katie D'Ambrosia and Jamie Ferrigno won at the top three spots in the singles lineup to lead the East Stroudsburg University women's tennis team to a 6-3 win over Catholic University on Sunday in the first of four matches on its spring break trip.

ESU's men fell to Brevard (N.C.), 8-0, in the first match of its trip. The Warriors' matches at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday were rained out; the rest of the week's matches will be played in and around Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Kaufman dropped just two games, D'Ambrosia won 6-0, 6-0 and Ferrigno lost only one game as the Warriors' top three singles players helped ESU improve to 3-1 after winning two of its three matches in the fall. Ferrigno improved to 49-19 in her career and can get her 50th win on Monday against Wingate (N.C.).

D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno won their 50th career doubles match together in the final match of the fall and opened the spring season with an 8-4 win over Marjorie Selinger and Elaina Sceusa. Kaufman and sophomore Rabecca Lausch won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and freshman Annie Vega and graduate student Jessica Wilson won 9-3 at No. 3.

Junior Andrew Makos played the closest singles match for the ESU men, falling 6-3, 6-4 to Brevard's Cole Altizer at the third single spot. Brevard won 8-2 at first and third doubles, while the second doubles match was not completed.

Both teams are back in action on Monday morning when they take on Wingate.
