TURLOCK, Calif. – Junior Josh Hontz set the school record and finished as the runner-up in the javelin, senior Lynn Mayer tied for third in the high jump and sophomore Rose Mascoli was fifth in the 5000m to give East Stroudsburg University three All-Americans on the final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Cal State-Stanislaus.

All three performances were historic as the Warriors wrapped up one of their best-ever showings at the NCAA Championships. Hontz's finish was the best by an ESU men's athlete since 1982, Mayer earned her school record sixth career All-America honor and Mascoli became the first ESU athlete to earn All-America status in two events at the same championship after placing third in the 10,000 on Thursday.

Hontz had a mark of 225-8 on his first throw which held up for second in the competition behind Nick Howe of UC San Diego, who launched a winning throw of 231-3 on his first attempt. Christian D'Annibale of Shippensburg finished sixth at 200-7.

Hontz entered the NCAA's as the No. 2 seed with a mark of 222-8, which he threw to win the PSAC championship on May 13. He completes a remarkable stretch in which he threw at least 209-10 – a PR by almost eight feet from the start of the season – in all six meets since April 9, including the PSAC Championships and a runner-up finish at the Penn Relays. He was 13th in his first appearance at the NCAA Championships as a sophomore.

He broke the previous school record of 222-11 set by Lance Branyan in 1992 and is ESU's seventh All-American in the men's javelin. Mike Revenis, the national champion in 1982, was the last Warrior to finish in the top two in any event at the NCAA's.

Mayer tied for third in the high jump with a mark of 5-6, her fourth straight top-three finish as she concludes her record-setting career at ESU. She was clean on her attempts at 5-3 3/4, 5-5 and 5-6 before missing three times at 5-7 1/4 in challenging, wet weather conditions. Whitney Hendershot of Slippery Rock, the PSAC runner-up behind Mayer, won with a height of 5-8 1/2 on her final jump.

Mayer was the runner-up indoors this season, tied for third outdoors last year and tied for second indoors. She was a two-time All-American as a freshman and qualified for the outdoor championships as a sophomore, giving her six All-America honors in seven appearances at the NCAA Championships.

Mascoli's fifth-place finish in the 5000 (16:38.24), 1.26 seconds off her school record, came 48 hours after she shattered the school record by 45 seconds while finishing third in the 10,000 (33:54.74). She was the 12th seed in the 5000 and entered the 10,000 as the fifth seed on Thursday night.

Mascoli wraps up a phenomenal sophomore season which began with All-America status and a 21st-place finish in cross country at the NCAA Championships. She was a member of the ESU swimming program for the second straight winter before returning to the track in the spring, where she set school records in the 3K, 5K and 10K and was the runner-up in the 10K at the Penn Relays.

Mascoli was one of five runners who were All-Americans in both the 5K and 10K. Sarah Porter of Western Washington set the meet record in the 10K and was second in the 5K and Mascoli, Lauren Kleppin (Western State), Christina Muir (Ferris State) and Kristen McGlynn (Adams State) also doubled in both events. Neely Spence of Shippensburg won the 5K in 16:17.30, running away from Porter for a six-second margin of victory over the final lap for her third straight national title in the event.
