ESU Finishes PSAC/WVIAC Crossover with Win over Davis & Elkins

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. – Sophomore middle blocker Ashley Lesniak had 30 kills and 16 blocks over four matches to lead East Stroudsburg University in a 1-3 weekend at the PSAC/WVIAC Crossover on Friday and Saturday at Shepherd University.

The Warriors battled through three 3-0 losses – including a pair of 26-24 setbacks in its first match against Fairmont State on Friday – before beating Davis & Elkins 3-0 to finish the weekend on Saturday night.

Lesniak had nine kills, three blocks and hit .333 and freshman Alexandra Williams had eight kills and 13 digs with a .333 hitting percentage in the win over Davis & Elkins as the Warriors hit .290, their top percentage through their first seven matches. ESU won by game scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-17.

Junior outside hitter Kaitlin Behrens added seven kills and hit .312, redshirt sophomore middle blocker Megan Plumb had six kills without an error on 15 attacks for a .400 percentage and junior outside hitter Kristina Perri added six kills in the match.

Freshman Annabelle Charlton had season-highs with 20 assists and 13 digs, sophomore Allye Preziosi added 13 assists and eight digs and freshman libero Haley Mork had 15 digs to hit double figures for the fifth time in her first seven matches.

The Warriors opened the weekend with a 26-24, 25-9, 26-24 loss to Fairmont State. Behrens and Lesniak led the attack with nine and seven kills, respectively. Preziosi had 13 assists and Charlton had 11, while Mork had a team-high eight digs.

Mork had 18 digs in a 25-21, 25-12, 25-21 loss to host Shepherd in the second match on Friday and posted a season-high 26 digs in a 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 loss vs. West Virginia State in the Warriors' first match on Saturday.

Williams had seven kills with a team-best .278 hitting percentage and Lesniak had four kills and seven blocks in the match against Shepherd. Lesniak hit the 10-kill mark vs. WV State and Behrens had seven kills and just one error on 25 attacks.

Behrens had 26 kills and hit .195 for the weekend, Williams had 20 kills and hit .227 with 18 digs and Plumb had 16 kills, 26 digs and seven blocks. Charlton had 51 assists and 29 digs and Preziosi had 48 assists and 30 digs while rotating at setter. Mork totaled 67 digs, an average of 5.6 per set, and is averaging 5.2 per set with 104 digs for the season.

The Warriors are back on the road next weekend with a trip to the northwestern corner of Pennsylvania as they open their PSAC schedule. They will take on Gannon and Edinboro at Edinboro on Friday and travel to Erie to face Mercyhurst on Saturday.
