Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Senior goalkeeper
Maureen Ordnung made a career-high 21 saves, but it wasn't enough to keep C.W. Post off the scoreboard in overtime as the Pioneers posted a 2-1 win over No. 10 East Stroudsburg University in the PSAC East field hockey opener for both schools.
Carlee Dragon scored both goals for C.W. Post (3-0, 1-0), which held a 29-10 advantage in shots and 12-8 advantage in penalty corners. The Pioneers had all three shots in overtime and Dragon knocked in a rebound 1:50 into the extra session for the game-winner.
Junior forward
Lauren Ventrella scored her third goal of the season for ESU (1-3, 0-1), which lost its third straight game, all by one goal, including two in overtime. The Warriors fell to Merrimack, 3-2 in overtime, and IUP, 2-1, after a 5-0 win over Stonehill in their season opener.
Dragon put C.W. Post ahead 3:45 into the second half after a scoreless first half before Ventrella tied it up 14 minutes later. The Pioneers held a 20-3 advantage in shots midway through the period before ESU rallied. Devon Trenkle made five of her seven saves in the second half.
C.W. Post broke an 11-game losing streak to ESU with its first win in the series since 1-0 (OT) victory in 2002. ESU leads the all-time series, 18-4-1.
The Warriors are on the road for two non-conference games this weekend, traveling to Mansfield on Friday and No. 4 Shippensburg on Saturday in a rematch of ESU's 2-1 upset of the undefeated Raiders in the PSAC semifinals last fall.
