LOCK HAVEN – Freshman midfielder Becky Gagliardi scored her first three career goals, including the game-winner with less than seven minutes left, to lead No. 10 East Stroudsburg University to a 6-5 win over Mansfield in a non-conference, neutral site field hockey game on Friday night at Lock Haven.

The match-up, which was moved from Mansfield to Lock Haven's Charlotte E. Smith Field due to field conditions following heavy rain in Pennsylvania's Northern Tier, lived up to recent history of the series with a high-scoring game despite the change in venue.

ESU (2-3) has scored at least five goals in each of the last five meetings, outscoring the Mounties 35-19 since the start of the 2009 season, and has won six straight games in the series. This marked the Warriors' second 6-5 win in the last five games and the third one-goal victory. ESU scored nine goals twice in that span, once in 2009 and once in 2010.

Gagliardi scored two goals in the first half to give the Warriors a 4-2 lead, then assisted on the go-ahead goal by freshman forward Jamie Robinson with 13 minutes gone in the second half. Mansfield tied it at 5-5 six minutes later on the second goal of the game by Taryn Schawillie.

The score remained deadlocked at 5 for 9:01 until Gagliardi scored the game-winner on an assist from junior midfielder Mallory Pope with 6:17 remaining in regulation.

Senior goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung, coming off a career-high 21 saves in a 2-1 (OT) loss at C.W. Post in the Warriors' PSAC East opener on Tuesday, made eight saves for her 34th career win in goal.

Kristie Rollman started and made one save for Mansfield in the first half, while Jamie Twist made two saves in the second half.

Senior midfielder Devin Whalen opened the scoring with her first goal of the season at the 9:14 mark of the first half, and Gaglardi netted her first career goal and started her hat trick performance with another score just a half-minute later. Both goals were assisted by senior midfielder Amanda McGuire.

Mansfield (2-2) answered with scores from Jessie Wolski and Danielle Hackenberg to tie the game at 2-2 at the midpoint of the half, but sophomore forward Brielle Kessel scored her first career goal to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead less than two minutes later. Gagliardi found the cage for the second time with 1:48 left until halftime to put ESU ahead 4-2.

The Mounties stormed back with two goals in the first 2:11 of the second half to tie the game at 4-4, as Danielle Hackenberg scored 59 seconds into the period and Schawillie had her first goal just over a minute later.

Eleven minutes later, Robinson's first career goal put the Warriors back in front by one.

ESU has a quick turnaround for a Saturday afternoon game at defending national runner-up and No. 4-ranked Shippensburg at 1 p.m. Friday's game was originally scheduled for 4 p.m. at Mansfield, but was pushed to 7 p.m. with the change in venue.
