EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior forward Alyson Becker scored the game's first two goals and No. 6-ranked East Stroudsburg University used a strong effort at both ends to knock off No. 4 Stonehill, 5-0, in a meeting of NCAA Field Hockey Tournament teams from a year ago on Friday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Becker, who scored three goals in her first season as a starter last year, found the cage midway through the first half and again with just under three minutes left for her second career multi-goal game.

Senior midfielder Amanda McGuire added a goal with five seconds left in the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime, and sophomore forward Gabrielle Seibert and junior forward Lauren Ventrella added second-half goals for the Warriors.

Ventrella assisted on Becker's second goal, freshman forward Becky Gagliardi had the helper on Becker's first goal and junior midfielder Mallory Pope and senior midfielder Devin Whalen also added assists. Pope had seven assists last season, tied for second on the team, while Whalen notched her first career assist.

Senior goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung made eight saves in 62:13 in the cage for her 12th career shutout. Junior Sarah Dobroskey played the final 7:47. Kaitlyn Curtis started and had six saves for Stonehill.

The Warriors opened the season with at least a five-goal margin of victory in a shutout for the second straight season and the fourth time in eight seasons. Last year ESU began a school record-tying 17-win season with a 5-0 win over Merrimack, its opponent on Sunday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

ESU improved to 8-2 against Stonehill in a series that has been tightly-contested over the last 10 seasons. Four of the Warriors' eight wins have come by one goal and three games have gone to overtime. The five-goal margin is the largest for either team in that span.
