Box Score
EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt sophomore back
Carly Collins scored on a penalty kick in the first half and senior forward
Megan Keiser scored 10 minutes into the second half as East Stroudsburg University posted a 2-1 win over Mercy College in non-conference women's soccer on Thursday night.
Collins converted from the penalty spot 18:57 into the contest after Mercy was whistled for a handball in the box, her third goal of the season and the first of her five career goals that wasn't scored on a corner kick.
Mercy leveled the score at 1-1 on a free kick from just outside the box by Viridiana Ortega in the 29th minute, but the Mavericks would put just one more shot on goal in the contest.
Keiser scored the eventual game-winner, the sixth goal of her career, in the 55th minute when her cross from the left wing got over the head of Mercy goalkeeper Krystal Guerrero (five saves) and found the side netting.
Senior goalkeeper
Melissa Myers made one save in her first start of the season, going up high for a long shot late in the second half. ESU held an 11-4 advantage in shots and 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
ESU (4-3-1) ended an 0-3-1 stretch and gave head coach
Rob Berkowitz a victory in the last of three straight games this week. The women's team fell to IUP in PSAC play on Tuesday and the men's team lost 1-0 on a late goal at NYIT in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
The Warriors travel to No. 2-ranked California on Saturday in the first of five straight conference games away from Eiler-Martin Stadium.
