EAST STROUDSBURG – Freshmen Shannon Hillsinger and Abby Welch combined for 23 kills and classmates Melissa Frixione and Katie Hecksel combined for 44 assists to lead East Stroudsburg University to a pair of 3-0 wins over Cheyney on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Hillsinger had six kills in both matches for a team-high 12 kills on the day and added 10 digs and six aces and Welch had 11 kills, five aces and two blocks. Frixione had 23 assists and eight aces and Hecksel had 21 assists, including 16 in the second match. Junior Katie O'Neill had 10 digs.

Junior outside hitter Kaitlin Behrens, the Warriors' leader with 80 kills this season, had eight in the second match. ESU hit .418 in the first match and .413 in the second match, finishing the two matches with 64 kills and 15 errors on 118 attacks.

Redshirt sophomore Megan Plumb played two sets and had six kills in seven attacks. Junior Kristina Perri and sophomore Elizabeth Madden both totaled five kills. Four players had at least five aces in Frixione (eight), Hillsinger (six), Behrens (five) and Welch (five).

The Warriors are away from home for their next nine matches, beginning with trips to West Chester and Kutztown next weekend.
