Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior midfielder Cree Julian had a hand in both goals, scoring the first and setting up the second, to help East Stroudsburg University improve to 2-0 with a 2-0 shutout of Alderson-Broaddus in non-conference women's soccer on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Julian, a transfer from Division I Towson, came off the bench to score the Warriors' first goal with a nice run into the box and a left-footed finish with exactly 18:00 left in the first half.

Senior midfielder Devon Miniscalco added the insurance goal with just under 20 minutes left in the game with the assists coming from Julian and redshirt sophomore back Carly Collins. The play began 60 yards away from the goal with a give-and-go between Collins and freshman back Lexie Peveraro. Collins carried the ball through the midfield before passing to Julian, who touched it to Miniscalco for a 20-yard strike from the right edge of the penalty box to the upper left corner of the goal.

The goal was the first of the season and 16th of her career for Miniscalco, who is one goal away from moving into ESU's top 10.

Collins, who had the game-winning header in ESU's 4-3 (OT) win vs. Georgian Court on Friday, helped lead the defense from her spot at center back. The unit of Collins, Peveraro, senior Linda Martine, junior Ashley McKenna and sophomore Michelle Gogolen limited Alderson-Broaddus to four total shots and none on goal in the contest.

Sophomore Brittain Wagner, who started every game at left back last season, made her first career start in goal and was not called on to make a save to post the shutout. Wagner set a national high school record with 18 consecutive shutouts during her senior year at Union-Endicott (N.Y.).

ESU had 14 shots and Alderson-Broaddus goalkeeper Kate Laird made seven saves. The Battlers (0-3), the runner-up in the WVIAC last season, fell 4-0 to PSAC runner-up California and 1-0 to Clarion in their first two games of the season.

The Warriors open their 14-game PSAC schedule this weekend by hosting Clarion on Friday and Edinboro on Saturday. Game time for both contests is set for 1 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
